[Service] Unit shutting off after a few seconds (Fan Issue Troubleshooting)
How to diagnose and troubleshoot fan issues on your unit
A unit shutting off in the 5-15 second range is typically an indication of an issue with the cooling fan(s) on the unit.
Our units have a failsafe built into them to automatically shut off if any of the cooling fans aren't functioning properly. This is to prevent any danger or damages that could be caused as a result of overheating.
If your unit is shutting off after a few seconds, first, check to see if all of the fans are turning on when the unit is powered up.
Be sure to check both the lamphead and ballast on applicable units.
If one (or more) of the fans aren't spinning when the unit is turned on, take a can of compressed air and spray it at the non functioning cooling fan. Sometimes, the fan may have some debris caught up in it that is preventing it from spinning. If this is the case, spraying some compressed air at the fan may be all that is needed to clear the debris and allow the unit to function again.
It's good practice in general to keep a can of compressed air handy to keep the fans on your unit clean. Keeping them clean can help extend their life as well as reduce fan noise that can come with age as bits of dust enter the fan.
If you spray the air and the fan spins freely, but will still not spin on it's own when the unit is turned on, this could be an indication of a dead fan.
