[EDUCATION] What is HSIC+ Color Mode?

HSIC+ Color Mode on Aputure STORM lights is an enhanced version of the standard HSIC color control model. It provides more precise and flexible control over the light’s output by adding additional parameters and smoothing options.

HSIC+ stands for:

  • Hue – Selects the dominant color on the color wheel (0–360°).

  • Saturation – Controls the balance between your chosen Hue and the set White Point.

  • Intensity – Adjusts overall brightness.

  • CCT (Correlated Color Temperature) – Allows adjustment of the white balance along the Kelvin scale.

  • ± Green Fine-tunes the white point by shifting along the Plus Green and Minus Green axis.
  • The White Point is the combination of the CCT and ± Green.

Earlier Aputure fixtures had HSI color mode, but they did not have an adjustable white point. Then Aputure introduced Advanced HSI, which added CCT.

Key Enhancements in HSIC+:

  • Improved blending between color and white modes – You can seamlessly mix a saturated hue with a specific white point.

  • Tint control – Critical for camera work where precise white balance is needed.

  • CCT override – Lets users lock a specific color temperature while still adjusting hue/saturation.

  • Better crossfade behavior – More cinematic color transitions, especially when fading between different hues or color temps.

Why it matters:

This mode is ideal for users who want both creative color control and accurate white light in a single mode—common for narrative cinematography, commercials, and virtual production where fine-tuned color accuracy and skin tone reproduction are crucial.
