LS 60X Accessories FAQs
DOES THE 60X HAVE THE SAME OPTICAL COLOR BLENDING TECHNOLOGY AS THE 300X? WILL IT WORK WITH THE SPOTLIGHT MINI ZOOM?
The LS 300x needs the color-blending opticals, because it is a bare Bowens mount fixture that is meant to be modifiable to any light source. The 60x is already a blended source with its aspherical optics so a separate prism isn’t necessary. In short, it is compatible with the Spotlight Mini Zoom.
WHY ARE THERE NO GOLD MOUNT VERSIONS OF THE LS 60 LIGHTS?
The LS 60x use a D-Tap Power Cable instead of a Battery Plate. This makes it compatible with V and Gold Mount cinema batteries. These fixtures have a V-Mount Receiver on the yoke, which acts as a modular power accessory attachment system. The V-Mount Receiver is a smaller system, and having a Gold Mount version would not only necessitate a bigger receiver, but also a version of the AC power adapter bracket, and NP-F Battery plate with a 3-Stud design.
IS THE 60X INTENDED TO BE USED WITH A C-STAND OR CAN THEY GO ON REGULAR IMPACT-STYLE LIGHT STANDS WITH A LIGHT DOME SE ATTACHED?
As long as the stand in question has a maximum weight capacity that supports both the fixture and modifier, the 60x can be used with regular impact-style light stands.
WHAT LIGHT MODIFIERS ARE THE LS 60 SERIES LIGHT COMPATIBLE WITH?
In addition to the 8-leaf barndoors included with the LS 60 lights, these kits also come with a Mini Mount to Bowens Mount adapter. This allows the LS 60 lights to be used with soft light accessories. The LS 60x is also compatible with the LS 60 Softbox, a 35x35cm compact square softbox, as well as the Spotlight Mini Zoom, a projection attachment designed specifically for the LS 60 lights with a 2X optical zoom range.
HOW WELL WILL THE LS 60D/X FILL BOWENS MOUNT MODIFIERS LIKE THE LIGHT DOME MINI II OR THE LANTERN?
As the LS 60x uses focusing aspherical optics, their maximum beam angle is 45°. While it will work with soft light modifiers that do not have an internal reflective or diffusing baffle, it will not fill up the entire diffusion like a bare COB. However, for softboxes like the Light Dome Mini or Light Dome SE, which have baffles, the LS 60 lights will fill them fairly evenly.
CAN THE LS 60 SERIES BE USED WITH OPTICAL BOWENS ACCESSORIES LIKE THE FRESNEL 2X OR SPOTLIGHT MOUNT? WHAT HAPPENS IF I USED A FRESNEL 2X WITH THE LS 60 BOWENS ADAPTER? DO I GET MORE OUTPUT?
The LS 60x includes a custom Bowens Mount adapter, to adapt from the LS 60 Mini Mount to the Bowens Mount. This makes the LS 60x compatible with SOFT LIGHT modifiers. The LS 60x cannot be used with optical modifiers, such as the Fresnel 2X or Spotlight Mount. This is because the condenser lenses don’t behave the way a bare COB would.
DOES THE APUTURE LS 60 MINI MOUNT FIT ANY OTHER STANDARD SIZE OF ACCESSORIES?
The LS 60x uses aspherical focusing optics that were specially designed to maximize the output and quality of the light from the 60x. As a result, the optics and the accessory mount are not compatible with accessories from other manufacturers.
WHAT BEAM ANGLE SHOULD I USE WITH THE LS 60 SERIES WITH THE SPOTLIGHT MINI ZOOM?
When using the LS 60x with the Spotlight Mini Zoom, the best results will be achieved with the LS 60x set to 15° spot mode. This will make the light as narrow & parallel as possible before entering the modifier, allowing the Spotlight Mini Zoom’s optics to make the illumination circle even & consistent. If the LS 60 beam angle is 45° flood, the light will not be parallel enough to enter the Spotlight efficiently. As a result, reflected light will interfere with the light quality, and there will be a hotspot in the center of the illumination circle.
