Sidus Link Pro - Controlling Sidus BT Fixtures

Day-to-day workflow for Sidus BT fixtures: selecting, adjusting intensity and color, grouping, applying effects, and recalling looks with Quickshots.

Overview

This article covers the day-to-day workflow for Sidus BT fixtures: selecting, adjusting intensity and color, grouping, applying effects and recalling looks. The workspace is Sidus BT View.

If you have not paired a BT fixture yet, start with Getting Started with Sidus Bluetooth.

Before You Start

  • Sidus Link Pro installed, signed in, and open to a project.

  • One or more Aputure or amaran lights paired over Sidus BT.

Selecting Fixtures

  • Single tap on a fixture tile to select it.

  • Lasso across multiple tiles to select a group.(Layout View only)

  • Tap a group tile to select every fixture inside it.

Adjusting Parameters

When a fixture is selected, the available parameters for that fixture become available at the top of the current view:

  • CCT - Set Intensity, Color Temperature, G/M shift, Dimmer Curve and Color Source values.

  • HSI / HSIC+ - Set Intensity, Hue, Saturation, CCT and G/M shift values.

  • RGB - Set Intensity, Red, Green and Blue values.

  • xy - Set xy coordinate values.

  • Picker - Set a color by capturing the ambient color with the iPad's camera.

  • Gels - Choose from a selection of Lee and Rosco gels.
  • Effects - Choose from a selection of System, Manual or Picker FX effects.

Changes propagate through the Sidus BT mesh. There is a small delay as commands reach each fixture, not an instantaneous change across all fixtures, as with hardline DMX. For most on-set work this is fine. If you need truly instantaneous reaction across numerous fixtures, use a hardline DMX connection(no delay) or a CRMX wireless connection(minimal delay), both available on Pro and MAX plans.

Effects on Bluetooth Fixtures

Tap a fixture, then the green Controls button, then Effects to access:

  • System FX - Numerous pre-made effects.

  • Manual FX - Facilitates creation of custom effects.
  • Picker FX - Camera-driven color sampling.

Also available on the right edge of the screen are:

  • Magic Infinity FX - Generative effects.

  • Magic Program - Timeline-based programming and multi-fixture layout effects .
  • Pixel FX - Create pixel effects on pixel capable fixtures.
  • PALETTE - Color palette management.

For more, see Using Effects.

Grouping

Use Groups to control multiple fixtures together:

  1. Select two or more fixtures.

  2. Tap and hold one fixtures fader, then drag it on top of the other fixtures fader that you would like to include in the group.

  3. Tap the group name under the newly created group fader to rename, edit or delete the group.

Recalling Looks with Quickshots

Quickshots save the intensity, color and effect state of all your active Sidus BT and DMX fixtures into a one-tap recall. Build a look, save it as a Quickshot, then change lights to a different look and save another. Tap any saved Quickshot to trigger that look back across the your Sidus BT and DMX fixtures.

Removing a Fixture

In Fixture View, press the x above the fixture fader.

What You Cannot Do Over Bluetooth

  • Send raw DMX values. Sidus BT does not use DMX. For DMX, use Controlling DMX Fixtures.

  • Get instant synchronous changeover across many fixtures. Commands cascade across the mesh.

  • Use timed fades on a Quickshot. For fades, use cues.
