Sidus Link Pro - DMX Output Window
Grid view of the raw DMX values Sidus Link Pro is sending. The fastest way to verify that a fixture is receiving the values that you think it is.
Overview
DMX Output Window shows the raw DMX values that Sidus Link Pro is sending to your Sidus One or Sidus Four transmitter, in real time. It is the fastest way to confirm that the app, the transmitter and your fixtures are all looking at the same numbers.
If you have ever asked "is the app actually sending what I think it is?", this is the best way to answer that question.
When to Use the Output Monitor
-
A fixture is not responding and you want to verify it is receiving the correct DMX values for each DMX channel.
-
You are dialing in a new fixture profile and want to watch the DMX values respond as you move sliders/faders. See Creating Custom DMX Profiles.
-
You suspect a cue or master is overriding values unexpectedly. See Using Masters.
-
You are troubleshooting an unfamiliar third-party fixture and need to confirm what DMX values it should be receiving vs. what it is receiving.
Layout
The DMX Output Window displays universes A1 - D4 as four grids of 512 addresses. Each universe shows the current DMX value (0 - 255) for each address. Active addresses with assigned channels are highlighted. Addresses with no assigned channels read 0 and are gray.
-
Address Number - At the top of each address cell.
-
Patched Channel Label - Label of the channel function for that address.
- Current DMX Value - 0 - 255.
-
Universe Selector - Located at the top right of the window. Jump to the available universes on the MAX plan.
Reading the DMX Output Window
Common patterns you will see:
-
Channel reads 0 with a fixture patched: The fixture's Intensity is at 0 or the parameter you are viewing has a home value of 0.
-
Channel jumps between values: A cue, master or effect is affecting that channel.
-
Channels locked at a value: A manual lock is in place. Open Channel View or Fixture View and unlock the fader.
-
Unexpected channels firing: Something is patched to a range you did not intend. Re-check the fixture's starting address.
DMX Output Window vs. Channel View
These two are related but answer different questions:
-
Channel View lets you set values directly. It is editable.
-
DMX Output Window is read-only. It shows what the app is actually outputting, after every cue, master, FX and lock has been applied.
If a channel reads one value in Channel View but a different value in the Output Monitor, something downstream is overriding it. The most common cause is an active cue, Fader or Grand Master affecting that channel.
What the DMX Output Window Cannot Show
-
The state of Sidus Bluetooth fixtures. Sidus BT does not use DMX. For Sidus BT live values, use Sidus BT View.
-
Network health between iPad and Sidus One/Four. For that, see Common Connection Issues.
-
Whether the fixture is actually reacting. The monitor confirms what the app is sending. If the patch is correct but the light still does nothing, the issue is downstream of the app.
