[STORM Series] Force USB Update
When a firmware update fails or the fixture does not boot properly, you can enter Forced Upgrade Mode to reload the firmware via USB.
Instructions
- Connect Lamp Head to Control Box (if applicable): Always connect the lamp head to the control box before updating to ensure the firmware installs on both units.
- Disconnect AC Power: Unplug the fixture from its AC power source.
- Connect USB Drive: Insert a USB drive with the correct firmware file into the USB port of the fixture.
- Press and Hold the Buttons: While the fixture is powered off, press and hold the MENU and LIGHT MODE buttons simultaneously.

- Reconnect AC Power: While still holding the MENU and LIGHT MODE buttons, plug the AC power cable back into the fixture.
- Enter Forced Upgrade Mode: The fixture will automatically start in the Forced Upgrade Interface.
- Confirm Update: The fixture will update and reboot automatically after completion. Check the Firmware version in the system menu to confirm that the fixture has updated correctly.
- Click MENU Button
- Scroll to System Settings. Press the Toggle Wheel.
- Scroll to Product Info. Press the Toggle Wheel.
- Select Firmware Version.
- Confirm that both the Controller and Lamp Head have updated.
NOTE: Firmware versions of the Controller and Lamp Head should always match. If they do not, run the update again
WARNING: Do not disconnect power or remove the USB drive during the update process.
NOTE: Make sure the firmware file matches your STORM fixture model. Only firmware for the specific model can be installed on the light. A USB Drive can hold light firmware for different models on the drive and will select the proper file.
If the update fails repeatedly, contact Aputure Support.
