[Education] What are Individual Emitter DMX Profiles?
Individual Emitter DMX profiles give direct per-emitter color control on STORM fixtures, bypassing the standard color engine.
Individual Emitter DMX Profiles give you direct control over each physical LED color emitter inside the fixture, instead of the blended color channels (CCT, ±Green, HSI, xy) used by every other profile family. Rather than telling the fixture "give me 5600K," you tell it exactly how much Red, Green, Blue, Amber, Cyan, and Lime to output.
How They Differ from Standard Profiles
Every other STORM and NOVA profile runs its channel values through the fixture's built-in color-mixing engine, the same math that produces accurate white balance, tint, and gamut-correct color. Individual Emitter profiles skip that engine entirely. Each emitter channel is a simple 0–100% intensity control with no color science applied, so the operator is fully responsible for finding the right mix.
Which Aputure Fixtures Use Them
This is a STORM-specific profile family; NOVA fixtures don't currently expose an Individual Emitter profile. The exact emitter set depends on the fixture:
- STORM 80c, STORM 1000c – RGBACL (Red, Green, Blue, Amber, Cyan, Lime)
- STORM CS32 – RGBAL (Red, Green, Blue, Amber, Lime)
- STORM X series – RGBA (Red, Green, Blue, Amber), all 4 channels
Individual Emitter profiles come in both Basic and Control Channel variants (see Basic vs. Control Channel DMX Profiles), and some fixtures also offer them combined with motorized Accessory channels. The Control Channel variant works exactly like any other Control Channel profile, including the DMX Control Channel itself and the Signal Flash confirmation.
When to Use Individual Emitter Control
This level of control is for specific, deliberate use cases, not everyday color work:
- Calibration – verifying or adjusting raw diode output
- Out-of-gamut color – extreme saturated colors the standard color engine won't produce
- Matching another fixture's native emitter output – replicating a specific raw mix rather than a calculated CCT or HSI value
