[STORM CS32] DMX Profile Control

The STORM CS32 includes 188 DMX profiles. Profiles are grouped into folders by number range, and every profile comes in an 8-bit and a 16-bit version. Choose a profile on the fixture under Control Settings > DMX Settings > DMX Profile.

Profile Folders

Each folder adds channels on top of the Basic color profiles. Pick the folder that matches what you need to control, then pick the color mode inside it.

Color Modes in a Profile Name

The name of each profile lists the parameters it controls, for example CCT & RGB & FX - 16-bit.

  • CCT: white light color temperature from 1800K to 20000K, with ±Green
  • RGB: red, green, and blue mixing. iRGB adds a separate intensity channel
  • HSI, HSIC+: hue, saturation, and intensity, with HSIC+ adding a CCT base
  • xy: CIE 1931 x and y coordinates
  • CCT+, Source Mode, Legacy Gel: the same light modes available on the fixture
  • FX: built-in lighting effects with effect parameter channels
  • (mod): matches the CCT range of the X series STORM lights

8-bit or 16-bit

8-bit profiles use one channel per parameter and need fewer DMX addresses. 16-bit profiles use two channels per parameter (coarse and fine) for smoother fades and finer control, at roughly double the channel count. For example, CCT & RGB uses 7 channels in 8-bit and 14 channels in 16-bit.

Control Channel Profiles

Profiles labeled & Control add three channels:

  • Strobe: strobes the light in any color.
  • Control: changes fixture settings remotely. Send the command value for 2.5 seconds, then return the channel to 0. The fixture confirms with a brief red flash. For example, value 27 turns DMX Smoothing off and value 30 turns it on. Send value 15 to turn off the confirmation flash.
  • Fan: sets the fan speed from the console. Set Fan Mode to DMX Controlled in System Settings first. Cutting the fan in a cue keeps it quiet during takes.

No Effect Ranges

Some channels start with a short No Effect range so a fader at zero changes nothing. Do not patch the No Effect range into a lighting console.
