Sidus Link Pro - Connecting Sidus One to Your iPad
Step-by-step guide to pairing Sidus One with your iPad in AP mode or STA mode. The same workflow applies to Sidus Four.
Overview
This article walks through pairing your iPad with Sidus One for the first time. The same workflow applies to Sidus Four, except with the network mode set on its front-panel display instead of a hardware button.
Before you start, install Sidus Link Pro, sign in and review Network Requirements and Wi-Fi Setup if you have not already.
Before You Start
-
Sign into Sidus Link Pro on your iPad.
-
Power on Sidus One.
-
Pro or MAX plan active. See Plans Overview.
Pick a Network Mode
Sidus One supports two modes for connecting to your iPad. Pick the one that matches your shoot:
-
AP Mode - Sidus One broadcasts its own Wi-Fi. Quickest setup. Good for on-set.
-
STA Mode - Sidus One joins your studio or venue Wi-Fi. iPad keeps internet.
For a deeper comparison, see Network Requirements and Wi-Fi Setup.
Connecting in AP Mode
-
Power on Sidus One. Press the Mode button until the AP indicator LED is lit.
-
On your iPad, open Settings > Wi-Fi. Join the network named SidusOne_XXXX (where XXXX is the device's serial suffix).
-
Enter the default password printed on the back side of Sidus One.
-
Open Sidus Link Pro. Open or create a project.
-
Tap the green + in the top-right and choose Add Sidus One. The app finds Sidus One on the local network.
-
Tap to confirm. You are connected.
Connecting in STA Mode
-
Connect Sidus One to your iPad in AP mode first using the steps above. STA mode is configured from inside the app.
-
In Sidus Link Pro, press the green + button, then select Configure Network Transceiver.
- Choose the Configure multiple Sidus Ones to control more DMX Universes option.
- Hold down the AP/STA button on your Sidus One for 3 seconds to enter Distribution Network State.
- Select your Sidus One from the available Network Transceiver list.
- Select your Sidus One on the Choose Mode screen, then select Use a router as Access Point.
-
Enter the Wi-Fi network you want Sidus One to join. Enter the password.
-
Sidus One reboots into STA mode and joins that network.
-
Join the same Wi-Fi network from your iPad's Settings > Wi-Fi.
-
Open Sidus Link Pro. Sidus One appears in the device list automatically.
Once Sidus One has been configured for STA mode, it remembers the network. The next time you power it on near that Wi-Fi, it joins automatically. You do not have to redo the AP-mode handshake.
Connecting Sidus Four
The flow is the same, with one difference: instead of a hardware Mode button, you set the network mode on the Sidus Four's front-panel display.
-
On Sidus Four: Menu > Network > Mode > choose AP or STA.
-
Follow the AP-mode or STA-mode steps above using the network name SidusFour_XXXX.
Verifying the Connection
Once connected, you should see:
-
The Sidus One/Four name in the Connection Management > Network Transceivers tab.
-
Universe routing options in the patching screen. See Patching a DMX Fixture.
-
The DMX Output Monitor populating with channel data once you patch and adjust a fixture. See DMX Output Monitor.
Troubleshooting
-
App does not see Sidus One: DSouble-check the iPad is on the right Wi-Fi network. In RX mode, both have to be on the same SSID.
-
Sidus One drops repeatedly: Network is unstable. Try AP mode for the shoot, or move to a less crowded Wi-Fi channel.
-
Cannot rejoin AP: Forget the network on iPad and rejoin.
